How these fresher resumes are laid out

Every sample on this page is one page, single column, with education and projects near the top because freshers don't have work history yet. They follow this order:

SectionWhat to include
Contact detailsName, phone, email, city, LinkedIn and GitHub or portfolio. No photo, date of birth or address needed.
Career objectiveTwo lines naming your target role, degree and top skills.
EducationDegree with CGPA, then 12th and 10th with year and marks.
Projects2–3 projects with tools used and what you built or achieved.
InternshipsRole, company, dates and 2 bullet points with outcomes.
SkillsTechnical skills first, then 2–3 soft skills you can show.
CertificationsCourse name, issuer and year (NPTEL, Coursera, Google, Tally).
AchievementsHackathons, competitions, college roles, volunteering.

Keep the font at 10–12 pt, margins around 1.5–2 cm, and save as a PDF named like Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf. Skip photos, signatures, a declaration and hobbies unless the job asks for them. For the full section-by-section guide, read Resume Format for Freshers in India.

Resume for freshers with no experience

No internship does not mean an empty resume. Recruiters hiring freshers look for evidence that you can learn and finish work. Use these instead of work experience:

  • Academic and personal projects: what you built, the tools used and one result.
  • Virtual internships and freelance work: even short or unpaid work counts if you can name the deliverable.
  • Certifications: NPTEL, Coursera, Google, Tally, AWS or freeCodeCamp courses relevant to the role.
  • College roles: class representative, club lead, fest organiser, NSS or NCC.
  • Competitions: hackathons, case competitions and quizzes, with your rank.

Common fresher resume mistakes

  • A generic objective like "to work in a reputed organisation" with no role named.
  • Two pages filled with hobbies, a declaration and a signature.
  • Listing every programming language or tool you have ever touched.
  • Projects copied from tutorials with no explanation of your own work.
  • Multi-column Canva designs with icons that ATS and Naukri can't read.
  • Spelling mistakes and an unprofessional email address.

Frequently asked questions

A one-page, single-column resume in this order: contact details, career objective or summary, education, projects, internships, skills, certifications and achievements. Save it as a text-based PDF so applicant tracking systems can read it.

A two-line career objective works well for most freshers because it names the target role. If you have a strong internship or several projects, a short summary of that evidence can work better.

Yes. One page fits education, projects, skills and an internship comfortably. A second page usually adds padding such as hobbies or a declaration, which weakens the first page.

Send a PDF unless the job post asks for Word. A text-based PDF keeps your layout fixed and is read correctly by most ATS and portals like Naukri.

Replace work experience with evidence you do have: academic or personal projects, internships (including virtual ones), certifications, college roles, volunteering and competitions. Describe each with what you did and a result.

Yes for most Indian campus and off-campus drives, because many companies filter by them. List degree, 12th and 10th with year and percentage or CGPA in one short Education section.
