Naukri for freshers

Naukri Profile for Freshers: Complete Guide

A fresher Naukri profile has to work harder — no job titles, no big-brand logos. This guide shows you how to set up every field (headline, summary, key skills, projects, internships, certifications, GitHub/portfolio) so you still rank in recruiter search for entry-level roles.

Projects > experience

For freshers, well-described projects are the main signal.

Keywords decide visibility

Recruiters filter on tools and stack, not just degrees.

Who this page is for

Final-year students and recent graduates (B.Tech, BCA, BBA, B.Com, MBA, B.Sc) who are creating a Naukri profile for the first time, or have an existing one that isn’t getting calls. The principles apply whether you’re targeting IT, analytics, marketing, sales, HR or finance roles.

Why your Naukri profile matters as a fresher

Most large-volume hiring for freshers in India still happens through job portals like Naukri. Recruiters hiring 50–200 freshers a quarter use search filters — degree, year, skills, city, expected CTC — and you appear or you don’t. A strong profile gets you on every screening list; a weak one keeps you stuck applying cold.

Headline

Formula: Degree + Year + Target Role + Top Skill(s).

  • B.Tech CSE 2026 (NIT Trichy) | Java, Spring Boot, React | Open to SDE Roles
  • MBA Marketing 2025 (SIBM Pune) | Brand, GTM, Consumer Insights
  • B.Com (Hons) 2026 | Accounting, GST, Excel, Tally | Looking for Finance Roles

Front-load degree + year + target role — that is what recruiters filter on first.

Summary

Three lines, 300–500 characters, third person. Lead with degree, year and college; state target role and top hard skills; mention the strongest project or internship with a real number; close with location preference. A worked example: “B.Tech CSE graduate (2026, VIT Vellore) with hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, React and MySQL. Built a peer-to-peer notes platform with 1.2k registered users in 4 months and interned at a Series-A FinTech building internal admin tools. Open to backend / full-stack SDE roles across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune.”

Key skills

Pick 15–20 hard skills that map to entry-level JDs in your target track. For a B.Tech CSE fresher targeting SDE: Java, Data Structures, Algorithms, OOP, DBMS, SQL, Operating Systems, Git, GitHub, Spring Boot (Basics), React (Basics), REST APIs, Problem Solving, Agile. More role-specific lists on the key skills examples page.

Internships

Every internship is a structured entry: company, role, dates, location, 2–3 outcome bullets. Each bullet should follow Action + Tool + Outcome with a number where possible.

  • “Built 6 internal admin screens in React + TypeScript used daily by the ops team of 14.”
  • “Wrote 22 unit tests in Jest, lifting coverage of the billing module from 41% to 78%.”
  • “Automated a manual reconciliation report in Python, saving 5 hours/week for the finance lead.”

Projects

Two to four projects, each with a clear name, one-line problem statement, the tech stack, your role and an outcome metric (users, repos, downloads, accuracy, runtime). Naukri indexes project descriptions for keywords, so writing the stack explicitly (“Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, AWS EC2”) directly improves recruiter search rank.

Certifications

Add 3–5 credible certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner, GCP Associate Cloud Engineer, Google Data Analytics, Meta Front-End Developer, HackerRank Problem Solving (Gold), NPTEL DBMS, IIT-X NSQF, etc. Avoid clutter of 20 tiny certificates; recruiters discount the list when it gets noisy.

Education

Fill degree, specialisation, college, year, and percentage/CGPA. Many recruiters filter on minimum CGPA (typically 7.0+ or 60%+). Add school 10th / 12th boards and percentages too — for many bulk-hiring filters, these are still used.

GitHub and portfolio

Put your GitHub and portfolio URL in the summary and personal details. Pin 3–5 clean repos with clear READMEs (problem, stack, screenshots, deploy link). A live link recruiters can actually open beats any long bullet list.

Resume upload

Upload a single-column, ATS-friendly PDF resume — Naukri indexes the text and recruiters download it. Use the fresher resume builder if you’re starting from scratch, and run a free ATS check before uploading. Aim for 85+.

Keywords across the profile

The same 10–12 core terms (your stack, target role, domain) should appear in your headline, summary, key skills, project descriptions and resume. That density is what makes Naukri’s ranker confident you are a real match. Don’t stuff — write naturally — but be deliberate.

Common mistakes freshers make

  • Headline = just the degree (“B.Tech 2026”) with no skills or target role.
  • Summary written like a personal essay — no keywords.
  • Skills section dominated by soft skills.
  • Projects listed by name only, no stack, no outcome.
  • Expected CTC blank or wildly off market (₹25 LPA as a fresher).
  • Resume designed in Canva with multi-column layout — parses badly.
  • No GitHub / portfolio link for tech roles.
